The Internet is
a fantastic educational resource - but please take a moment to read our
safety advice for young people using the web.
This website has
been designed with safety as top priority. If you have any concerns, please
don't hesitate to contact us.
Tips for parents
Keep the computer near you
Talk to your child about
what they do online
Emphasise that the "stranger
= danger" lesson applies in cyberspace as much as on the high-street
Keep a 'favourites' folder
of agreed sites
Install parental control
filter software - these often come with Internet-virus protection programmes
such as Norton Internet Security, or may be provided by your ISP (Internet
service provider)
Tips for young surfer
Always keep your name, address,
phone numbers (mobile and home numbers) and passwords private
Do not send photos of yourself
to people you do not know
Do not accept emails or
open files from people you do not know - they main contain viruses or
nasty messages
Do not meet a stranger alone
Remember you cannot tell
if people online are telling the truth
If you are allowed to use
"chat", always stay in public areas
Tell your parents if you
are exposed to anything you dislike
If ever in doubt, ask an
adult
